Better Safe Than Sorry
Eye emergencies are particularly sensitive because there is a lot at stake.
Your vision could be permanently damaged, if not lost, in the blink of an eye.
(All puns aside, your eyes are incredibly delicate, so even a seemingly minor problem could have serious consequences.)
What an Emergency Looks Like
- Sudden changes to your vision, including vision loss
- Swelling in or around your eye
- Excessive tearing
- Severe or prolonged itching or burning sensation
- Bruising or bleeding in or around your eye
- Feelings of pressure near, around, or behind the eyes
- Extreme redness
- A throbbing sensation
- Sharp pain in or near your eye
Examples of Common Eye Emergencies
- Chemical exposure
- Blunt trauma to your eye or head
- Foreign objects in your eye ( such as dirt, glass, or make-up)
- Severe allergic reaction
- A cut or scrape on the eye (called a corneal abrasion)
